Can you help me with an iPad download question?

I got some stories for a class as Acrobat Reader docs in an email. I want to bring them to class on my iPad but I only have wi-fi at home on the iPad, that is, can’t access it at school.

I sent the link to Notes, opened it and downloaded it so I think I should be able to open it off-line. My questions are: 1) Is that true? and 2) Where would I find the downloaded doc? It’s not obvious to me.
